As a citizen of Forsyth County, I am continually and deeply concerned about the increase in shootings in our community. So far in 2021, there have been over 24 reported homicides and 100 reported shootings - several of which included juveniles. Immediate steps need to be taken in the areas of prevention, inturruption, and healing in relation to this violence.
With the decisions regarding ARPA money pending, I urge you, as a fellow citizen and a representative of this community to approve Case Id: 10801: “A Community Response to the Escalating & Traumatizing Impact of Gun Violence.”
This grant will supports the Women’s Gun Violence Prevention Coalition (WWGVPC) which is situated to launch because of a groundwork of trust and rapport necessary to rapidly identify youth at risk and their families for violence and/or gang involvement and be an immediate interrupter while providing strategies and community driven solutions for gun violence prevention.
This proposal provides structure and effective approaches to address gang-involvement are comprehensive and mobilize a wide spectrum of community resources working together, provide opportunities for education and/or employment, and provide on-going support for the youth involved. Action4Equity and The Women’s Gun Violence Prevention Coalition provides leadership, organizing, and community-led strategy development to form and lead a community-wide action plan to address youth gun violence using a three-pronged approach focused on: Early Prevention with Youth, Violence Interruption, and Post-Violence Healing - all of which are necessary in making strides towards a safer community for us all.
Please approve the ARPA funding for Case ID: 10801
